Installing the app on Android

Tap the download button above and wait for the file to finish downloading.

If Android asks, allow your browser to "install unknown apps" for this one file — this is normal for an app that is not installed from the Play Store.

Open the downloaded file and tap Install. If Android says it cannot update the app, remove the old WakaBid first and then install this one — that only affects phones running a version from before 26 September. Nothing is lost either way: your account, wallet and trips live on the server and come back when you sign in with the same number.

Open WakaBid, sign in with your phone number, and you are ready to request or offer a ride.
Android may warn that it has not seen an app from this developer before.
That is expected, and it is not a fault in the app: Play Protect says it about any app installed directly rather than from the Play Store, and WakaBid’s signing key is new, so Google has no history for it yet. Tap Install anyway to continue. The warning disappears once WakaBid is published on the Play Store, which is in preparation.

This page — and the link the app itself uses for updates — is the official source of the WakaBid Android build. Do not install a WakaBid file offered anywhere else. You can check that your file is genuine: the SHA-256 of this build is 20b6216904af2ac950d008e4519310c020428c8541781c2d69508cc17bee15b9.

The Play Store version is in preparation. Until it is published, this pilot build is how WakaBid is installed, and it updates itself over the air.
