Privacy Policy
Version 1.2 · Effective 13 October 2026 · WakaConnect Ltd
This Privacy Policy explains how WakaConnect Ltd (“we”, “us”, “our”), the operator of the WakaBid mobility marketplace (the “WakaBid App” and the website wakabid.com, together the “Service”), collects, uses, shares and protects your personal data when you use the Service as a passenger, driver or visitor. We process personal data in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA), the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation 2019 (NDPR) and other applicable laws.
1. Who we are
WakaBid is operated by WakaConnect Ltd, a company registered in Nigeria (RC 9809331), with its registered office at 18B Presidential Road, Ogui, Enugu State, Nigeria. You can reach us at wakaconnect26@gmail.com or +234 702 537 7134.
2. What we collect
The personal data we collect depends on how you use the Service:
- Account and profile information: your name, phone number, email address, profile photo (if you add one) and one-time passcodes (OTPs) used to verify your phone number. Sign-in is a one-time code sent to your phone and a PIN or fingerprint held only on your own device — we hold no password for your account.
- Ride information: pickup and drop-off locations, route and trip details, times, fares and bid amounts, trip history, and ratings or reviews you give or receive.
- Location information: precise GPS location while the app is open and in use — for passengers while they set a pickup and during a trip, and for drivers while they are online and available to receive nearby ride requests. We also record your location once, when you finish setting up your account, to understand which places our users are joining from. We do not collect location in the background, and the app does not request Android’s background-location permission. Drivers who stop sharing location stop receiving ride offers.
- Driver verification data (drivers only): driver’s licence details, government-issued identification, vehicle particulars (type, registration or plate number, photographs), and bank account details where we need to pay out earnings.
- Payment information: if and when in-app payment is enabled, details needed to process fares (such as card or wallet information through our payment processors) plus transaction records. We do not store full card numbers.
- Device and usage information: device model, operating system, app version, IP address, and analytics about how the Service is used.
- Communications: correspondence with our support team. The app has no in-app messaging between passengers and drivers, so there are no such messages to store.
3. How we use your information
We use personal data to provide and operate the Service, including to:
- create and manage accounts and verify your identity and phone number;
- verify drivers’ licences, vehicles and documents before they can offer rides;
- connect passengers with drivers through bids, show trip progress and enable communication between them;
- process fares, driver earnings and our commission, and handle disputes and refunds;
- promote safety and security — for example detecting fraud, misuse or unsafe behaviour, and supporting investigations;
- send service messages (ride updates, OTPs, account notices) and respond to support requests;
- improve the Service through analytics, testing and troubleshooting; and
- comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.
Our legal bases for processing include: performing the contract you enter into when using the Service; your consent (which you may withdraw at any time); our legitimate interests (such as security, fraud prevention and service improvement); and compliance with legal obligations.
4. How we share your information
- Between users: so a ride can happen, we share limited information — a driver sees your name, rating and pickup details; you see the driver’s name, photo, vehicle type, plate number, rating and live location during the trip.
- Service providers: we engage trusted third parties (for example cloud hosting, SMS and one-time-code delivery, maps and navigation, email delivery, analytics and payment processing) who act only on our instructions and receive only what is necessary. Our current providers include Termii (delivery of SMS one-time codes), Brevo (delivery of account and trip emails), Expo and Google (app distribution, notifications and maps) and our cloud host (storage and processing).
- Legal and regulatory bodies: we may disclose personal data where required by Nigerian law or a valid request from a court, regulator (such as the Nigeria Data Protection Commission) or other lawful authority, or to protect the rights and safety of any person.
- Business transactions: if WakaConnect Ltd is merged, sold or reorganised, user data may be transferred to the new entity, which remains bound by this policy.
We do not sell personal data to anyone.
5. International transfers
Some service providers may be located outside Nigeria. Where personal data is transferred abroad, we ensure appropriate safeguards (such as contractual protections) are in place so your data remains protected to standards consistent with the NDPA.
6. How long we keep your data
We keep personal data only as long as necessary for the purposes in this policy: while your account is active, plus a reasonable period afterwards to handle disputes and comply with legal, tax and accounting requirements (for example, financial records are kept as required by Nigerian law). Where data is no longer needed, we delete or anonymise it.
7. How we protect your information
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures, including encryption of data in transit, restricted access controls and regular security reviews. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work hard to protect your data and to respond promptly if an incident occurs.
8. Your rights
Under Nigerian data protection law you have the right to:
- request access to, and a copy of, the personal data we hold about you;
- request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data;
- request deletion of your data (subject to legal retention requirements) — the steps, and what is deleted and kept, are on Delete your account;
- object to or restrict certain processing, and request portability of data you provided;
- withdraw consent you have given at any time (this may affect our ability to provide the Service); and
- lodge a complaint with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) at ndpc.gov.ng.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at wakaconnect26@gmail.com. We will respond within the time allowed by law. Where we ask you to verify your identity first, this is to protect your data.
9. Location controls
You control location access through your phone settings. Passengers can switch off precise location when not requesting or taking a trip. Drivers can switch location off, but will then not receive nearby ride offers.
10. Children
The Service is intended for people aged 18 and over. Drivers must be adults holding a valid licence, and passengers must be at least 18 years old (or the minimum age for independent travel in their location). We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13; if you believe a child has provided us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
11. The wakabid.com website
The wakabid.com website does not use advertising cookies, third-party tracking scripts or social media pixels. We count visits and button taps (for example, how many people download the app) on our own servers, using anonymised counts only — no cookies, no personal identifiers, no sharing with anyone.
The website does not ask you to create an account or to submit personal details, and it collects no name, email address or phone number. The only way to give us those is inside the app, or by writing to us directly.
The Service may contain links to third-party websites; this policy does not apply to those sites, and we encourage you to read their privacy policies.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make significant changes, we will notify you through the app, by email or on our website, and update the effective date above. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
